Chennai keeps its traditions close enough to touch. Brass here is polished from use rather than for show, craft is inherited before it is commissioned, and the dining table still holds the family's centre of gravity.

The light is equatorial and the homes negotiate with it all day. Filtered screens, deep overhangs, stone floors that stay cool barefoot. Even the most contemporary interiors carry a patience with detail that feels devotional.
