House of Arches: Inside a Chandigarh Home Defined by Soft Geometry, Timeless Elegance, and Thoughtful Design

Earthborne by DezignChandigarh13500 sq ft2026

Some homes announce themselves through scale; others through gesture. The villa designed by Earthborne by Dezign achieves both, though its most compelling quality lies in the latter. Here, arches, softened curves, and layered mouldings are not decorative devices but the foundation of the home’s architectural language, guiding movement and shaping experience with quiet confidence.

Led by Pallavi Goel, the studio was entrusted with complete creative freedom. The brief called for a timeless residence that balanced luxury with livability, while clearly defining spaces for family life, privacy, and leisure. What emerged across three levels is a home anchored by a dramatic double-height volume and sculptural staircase, a central architectural gesture from which the rest of the design unfolds.

Throughout the villa, recurring curves, restrained materiality, and carefully framed transitions create a sense of continuity and calm. The result is a residence that feels both refined and deeply personal, demonstrating how thoughtful design can achieve presence without excess and luxury without spectacle.

The staircase: a sculptural sweep of stone held by a wrought-iron balustrade, beneath a chandelier of porcelain ginkgo leaves and brass branches

The staircase forms the architectural heart of the home, conceived as a sculptural composition of stone treads, a slender wrought-iron balustrade, and a warm timber handrail. Suspended above, a chandelier of porcelain ginkgo leaves and brass branches descends through the double-height volume, introducing a sense of movement and delicacy to the space. At its base, a carefully curated seating arrangement of textured ivory armchairs, a stone-topped table, and a dark console establishes a welcoming focal point, where every element is intentionally restrained.

What gives the space its impact is its disciplined sense of proportion. The recurring language of curves, echoed in the staircase, chandelier, rug, and raised marble plinth, creates a visual continuity that feels deliberate rather than decorative. Fine moulded wall panelling provides texture and depth without overwhelming the composition, maintaining a balance between contemporary refinement and timeless elegance. The result is an entrance sequence that feels both grand and composed, setting the tone for the home beyond.

From the garden, the architecture reveals its strategy. A tall central arch frames the entrance like a portico, flanked by slim fluted columns and a wrought-iron lantern that signals the home’s classical vocabulary without commitment to any one period.

The ground floor holds the home’s social life. The formal living room sits adjacent to a more relaxed family lounge, then the dining room, then the kitchen, all opening outward toward lawns at the front and rear. This layout was not chosen for grandeur but for flow: the public spaces never feel cordoned off from one another, and the landscape is always somewhere in the periphery of vision.

Adjacent to the double-height volume, a more intimate lounge offers a quieter interpretation of the home’s design language. Wrapped in a palette of warm neutrals, the space is defined by layered textures, sculpted detailing, and an abundance of natural light. Custom wall panelling introduces a subtle geometric rhythm, echoed in the intricately detailed ceiling, while floor-to-ceiling drapery softens the architecture and filters daylight into a gentle glow.

At the centre of the room, a collection of organically shaped timber coffee tables anchors the seating arrangement, surrounded by upholstered sofas and patterned accent chairs that introduce warmth and character. A suspended swing crafted in wood and cane becomes the room’s most distinctive feature, adding a sense of informality and movement while reinforcing the home’s emphasis on comfort and livability. Carefully curated artwork, natural materials, and handcrafted furnishings lend the space a collected quality that feels both sophisticated and inviting.

Framed by elegant glass partitions detailed with geometric mouldings, the lounge maintains a visual connection to the larger volume beyond while preserving its own sense of intimacy. It is a space designed for everyday gathering, where architectural detailing and relaxed furnishings work in harmony to create an atmosphere that is warm, welcoming, and effortlessly refined.

The family lounge establishes the home’s interior character through a carefully balanced composition of form, texture, and tone. A generously proportioned sectional in soft cream anchors the space, complemented by an olive-toned accent chair whose ribbed detailing subtly echoes the linear mouldings that frame the room. A large abstract artwork introduces contrast and visual depth, bringing a contemporary edge to the otherwise muted palette.

The strength of the space lies in its restraint. Coffered ceilings, refined cornice detailing, and layered textiles work together to create richness without excess. Rather than relying on statement gestures, the design draws its impact from proportion, materiality, and thoughtful curation.

“The palette is intentionally muted yet layered, inspired by the idea that luxury can be calm, textured, and quietly expressive.” This philosophy is evident throughout the space, where material richness and subtle detailing take precedence over overt display, allowing the interiors to feel both sophisticated and effortlessly livable.

The dining room introduces a subtle shift in character while remaining firmly connected to the home’s overall design language. Walls clad in a softly patterned palm-inspired wallpaper rise above fluted cream wainscoting, creating a layered backdrop for the space. At its centre, a long dining table in dark stone grounds the room, while upholstered dining chairs in a muted geometric weave add texture and visual interest without overwhelming the restrained palette.

A strong sense of symmetry brings clarity and balance to the composition. Matching consoles, table lamps, and wall sconces frame the room with quiet precision, drawing the eye along the central axis toward the softly draped window beyond. While the detailing here carries a more classical influence, it is tempered by tactile materials, matte finishes, and a carefully controlled palette.

The threshold to the kitchen: a sliding glass-and-cream door with Georgian bars and a porthole motif within a softly arched frame

The transition into the kitchen is among the home’s most thoughtfully resolved architectural moments. A sliding glass-and-cream door, detailed with Georgian-style bars and a circular porthole feature, is set within a softly arched opening, reinforcing the curved forms that recur throughout the residence. Beyond, the kitchen unfolds in a palette of pale dove-blue cabinetry, brass hardware, and fluted-glass upper units, creating a space that feels distinct yet seamlessly connected to the broader design narrative.

The threshold encapsulates the home’s modern-classic sensibility. Clean lines are softened by gentle curves, while traditional detailing is reinterpreted with restraint and clarity. Rather than relying on overt references, the design draws upon classical elements as a means of establishing rhythm, proportion, and continuity, resulting in a kitchen that feels timeless, elegant, and quietly contemporary.

Upstairs, the master suite adopts a softer and more intimate character, offering a sense of retreat from the more formal spaces below. A textured botanical mural forms the backdrop to the channel-tufted bed, its delicate detailing framed by warm ribbed timber panelling that adds depth and warmth to the room. Suspended globe pendants introduce a sculptural element, while floor-to-ceiling sheers diffuse natural light, creating a gentle and calming atmosphere throughout the space.

Every element within the suite is carefully considered to enhance comfort and tranquility. A chaise lounge at the foot of the bed, a brass-and-glass side table, and a softly patterned rug contribute layers of texture without disturbing the room’s quiet elegance. Rather than relying on decorative excess, the design prioritises balance, materiality, and light, resulting in a bedroom that feels restful, refined, and deeply personal.

The master dressing room extends the suite’s refined design language while introducing a slightly more tailored and sophisticated character. A continuous wall of ivory wardrobes, combining panelled shutters with fluted-glass fronts, provides both visual rhythm and functional storage. At the centre, a matching island clad in fluted detailing serves as a focal point, its carefully curated accessories lending a sense of everyday luxury to the space.

Above, an ornate aged-brass chandelier introduces a subtle decorative accent, offering a gentle contrast to the room’s otherwise clean-lined composition. The balance between classic detailing and contemporary restraint allows the dressing room to feel elegant without excess, transforming a functional space into an experience of quiet sophistication.

The bathroom introduces a subtle departure from the home’s otherwise neutral palette, embracing colour with measured confidence. Entered through a sage-green panelled door, the space is enveloped in richly veined stone surfaces that lend depth and visual drama. A floating vanity in the same muted sage tone anchors the room, its fluted detailing adding texture while maintaining the refined character seen throughout the residence.

Brass fittings and wall sconces bring warmth and elegance to the composition, complementing the natural richness of the stone without overwhelming it.

The first-floor landing serves as a compelling extension of the home’s architectural narrative. Here, the wrought-iron balustrade reappears, framing views into the double-height volume below and reinforcing the continuity of the design language.

The double-height void creates a visual and experiential connection between levels, allowing the architecture to unfold as a cohesive whole. Viewed from above, the sweeping staircase takes on a distinctly sculptural quality, becoming both a circulation element and a defining architectural feature that anchors the home across its three floors.

The daughter’s bedroom reinterprets the home’s recurring language of arches with a softer, more playful sensibility. A deep burgundy arched headboard, detailed with channel tufting, forms a striking focal point behind the bed, while layered linens and delicate floral accents introduce warmth and personality. The room balances refinement with youthful charm, creating a space that feels both elegant and deeply individual.

The study corner within the daughter’s room demonstrates how functionality and design can be seamlessly integrated. A wall of built-in cream wardrobes provides ample storage, while a sculptural arch-shaped shelving unit introduces depth and visual interest at its base. The repeated use of curves reinforces the room’s architectural language, transforming everyday storage into a thoughtful design feature.

One of the upper-level bedrooms adopts a quieter, more understated expression of the home’s design language. Soft neutrals, layered textures, and gently curved forms create an atmosphere of calm, while subtle architectural detailing lends the room a sense of character. An arched feature wall behind the bed introduces a sculptural backdrop, framing a delicate patterned wallcovering that adds depth without overwhelming the restrained palette. Light timber furnishings, embroidered textiles, and warm metallic accents bring a sense of softness and intimacy to the space.

The room balances architectural structure with decorative restraint.

Adjoining the bedroom, the bathroom introduces a stronger material expression through the extensive use of dramatically veined marble. A monolithic vanity with fluted detailing is paired with a circular mirror and warm metallic fixtures, creating a composition that feels both sculptural and functional. Black-framed glazing and timber accents add contrast to the stone surfaces, while filtered daylight enhances the richness of the materials. Together, the bedroom and bathroom form a cohesive retreat where understated luxury is expressed through craftsmanship, texture, and thoughtful detailing.

A guest room with a direct relationship to the landscape: oat tones inside, the mature tree just beyond the glass
A guest room with a direct relationship to the landscape

The ground-floor guest bedroom offers a distinct experience, one shaped by its close connection to the landscape beyond. A softly upholstered headboard in warm oat tones rests against a backdrop of subtly patterned wallcovering, creating a calm and understated setting. Large black-framed glass doors open directly onto a timber deck and the mature greenery outside, allowing natural light and garden views to become an integral part of the room’s atmosphere.

The design embraces restraint, relying on texture, proportion, and a carefully balanced palette to create a sense of comfort. A bench upholstered in a botanical-inspired fabric introduces a gentle layer of pattern, while the remainder of the space remains deliberately quiet. The result is a guest suite that feels welcoming and serene, offering both privacy and a strong visual connection to nature.

The outdoor deck extends the experience of the guest suite into the landscape, creating a seamless transition between architecture and nature. A timber pergola casts shifting patterns of light and shadow across the deck, lending the space a relaxed and inviting character throughout the day. Beneath it, rattan seating in soft neutral tones is arranged around a low table, forming an intimate setting for conversation, reading, or quiet reflection.

The second floor turns the volume up. The party lounge is colour-drenched in a deep coral-red, walls and ceiling lacquered to a reflective gloss, with classical panelling outlined in the same tone so the architecture reads as relief rather than ornament. Sofas in soft blush boucle wrap the room, two ring chandeliers with frosted globes hover overhead, and a Calacatta marble coffee table with dramatic purple veining grounds the centre.

This is the home’s argument that restraint is a choice, not a default. Where the rest of the villa whispers, this room sings, but the underlying discipline is identical: a single dominant gesture, supported by carefully calibrated companions.

Pallavi Goel at the foot of the staircase that became the conceptual nucleus of the project
Pallavi Goel – Founder of Earthborne by Dezign

Pallavi Goel founded her studio in 2024 after a sixteen-year career spanning Delhi, Mumbai-based Josmo Studio, and Livspace. In a relatively short span, the practice has established a distinct design language rooted in understated luxury, where warmth, elegance, and individuality take precedence over overt display.

This villa reflects a vision of luxury defined by restraint and clarity. Architectural arches, softened geometries, and a muted material palette are carefully orchestrated across three levels, while a singular burst of colour introduces contrast without disrupting the overall sense of calm. The project navigates a thoughtful middle ground between maximalist expression and reductive minimalism, prioritising balance, comfort, and longevity.

With Earthborne by Dezign, Goel has created a home where continuity is found in the repetition of form, material, and proportion. Each space carries its own identity while remaining connected to a cohesive architectural narrative. The result is a residence that reveals itself gradually, rewarding attention through nuance, craftsmanship, and a quiet confidence that endures beyond trends.
