Goa

Goa's homes are negotiations with weather, and the weather usually wins something. Walls stay lime-washed and breathing, cane and wood take the humidity in stride, and the threshold between inside and out is treated as the most important room in the house.

Foyers and passages get the attention other cities give their showpieces, because arrival matters when living spills outdoors. The result is unhurried by design: houses that assume bare feet, long afternoons and rain on the roof.
