The Orange Lane
The Orange Lane has spent more than two decades arguing that interiors are a form of storytelling, not styling. Founded in 2003 by Shabnam Gupta, the Mumbai-based studio works across residences, hospitality and retail, with a portfolio that runs from private homes for clients who guard their anonymity to public rooms like The Bar Stock Exchange in Juhu, recently brought back to life in cobalt blue geometry. The vocabulary is layered and theatrical. Hunter green sits beside ivory, vernacular craft beside opulent drama, and colour is treated as a feeling before it is a finish. The practice sits inside a wider Indian craft tradition, extending into Peacock Life, Shabnam's offbeat furniture and decor label. A studio of eleven to fifty hands now works under the same roof. Great design, the studio likes to say, speaks volumes. They are still listening for what comes next.
